Introduction to AdWords

This page is part of Ron Mertens' web page guides.

One of the best ways to get visitors to your web site is through Pay per click advertisement. And the best PPC system is probably Google's own AdWords.

How PPC works

Pay per click advertisement is easy. You make your ad (usually just text, so it's easy), you choose your keywords, you decide how much you want to spend per click, and there you go.

What is so good about PPC?

PPC is cool because it is very easy and fast to get started, you can decide how much you want to spend (usually you can set your daily budget), and you only pay for people that actually come to your site, not for just "impressions" like in the old days.

It's really good for small advertisers, who only wish to pay a few dollars a day, or even less.

AdWords

I really recommend that you try advertisement with Google AdWords system. It takes about 5 minutes to register and setup your first campaign. It only costs 5$ to setup, and you can decide what's your daily budget is. You can actually decide to spend only 1$ a day on ads!

AdWords uses text-based ads, like the small sponsored links you see in Google search or in the AdSense network. There are also image ads, but that is a more "advanced" subject.

eCPM

Like I explained in the AdSense guide, the ads that come up on top are the ones that have the higher eCPM rate - the ones that bring the most money to Google. So you can have cheaper ads if you target the right keywords, and if your ad copy is compelling enough.

AdWords gives you a lot of control over your ads and campaigns, and it's a good idea to keep watching you account, see what keywords work and what not, use specific keywords and not general ones, and perfect your ad copy.
