The Domain Game
I just finished reading an interesting book – ‘The Domain Game‘. My friend Ingvar Grimsmo recommended this one. The book is about the Domain-Name industry – investing in domain names, and making lot’s of money (either by later selling the domains, or by using PPC ads in their domains – domain parking).
There are some stories about early investors – back in 1995 or 1996, some people have the vision to buy hundreds or thousands of good domains. The domains were even free at the beginning! (today it costs less than 10$ for a .com domain). Later on the ‘best’ domains were taken – but people still managed to build interesting businesses. For example by buying a lot of domains. If you can make 11$ a year per domain, and it costs you 9$ a year, and you have 350,000 domains, you can make good money. And yeah – people actually accumulated hundreds of thousands of domains (and to think Michal says I have a problem with domains – I have only 43). Another option is to buy second-hand domains, holding off for a few years and sell with a high profit.
The book is interesting, and I think it’s well worth a read – I sure learned a thing or two!
