Abi? No! Abbie!!

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

OK. It turns out that the most common nickname for Abigail is actually spelled Abbie and not Abi.

This of course changes everything (well, not really).

She’s still very cute, by the way. She started sleeping better at night- sometimes for 4 or 5 hours in a stretch. There’s nothing better than actually getting to sleep a few hours in a row, I tell you ;-)

Host gator turns green

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Great news - my host (Host Gator) is now green - the servers are wind powered (through purchased green credits). So if you’re looking for a host, that is a good reason to choose those guys (which, all in all, I’m quite happy with). Be sure to follow this link, so I can get referral fees ;-)
That is really cool, altough not *all* my sites are hosted there (in fact OLED-Info is hosted elsewhere).

Drupal multi-site

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

As you probably know (or not), I have 6 drupal sites on-line… 5 Of them are on the same server. Up till today (well, yesterday, to be exact) each had its own code-base.

I have now combined it all under one Drupal code installation, using Drupal’s cool multi-site option. This means that every site has its own Database, theme and user files (such as images) - but the code and modules is shared between all sites. This means that it will be much easier to upgrade, move server, and manage the sites. Good for me!

GTD

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

I’ve just finished reading Getting Things Done, which is a great productivity book (or system, really). I’ve known about it for quite some time, and I finally read it.

Basically what this guy is saying is that we need to offload every task and project (he calls them ‘open-loops’) to a system we can trust. This way they will not ‘annoy’ us in our head, which makes us less stressed and more productive. He then goes on to build this interesting system to do all that.

So I’ve implemented my own GTD system now, or at least parts of it. I’ve been working like this for a week or so, and so far so good ;-)

Scientific American link

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

It’s always good to get a good link. Sci-Am is talking about new Memory technologies, and they are linking to MRAM-Info.

I’m not getting a lot of traffic (there are dozens of links in this page), but that’s nice anyway.

Tao Te Ching + widget

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

As part of my quest to ‘taste’ a bit from several religions, I started reading the Tao Te Ching. I was rather happy with it. I’m also playing with iGoogle these days, and to my surprise there was no ‘Tao Te Ching’ widget!

So off I went, and created one. For some reason I can’t post it here (although on the Metalgrass blog it worked fine! Maybe I need to upgrade my wordpress?) so you can check it out in the Metalgrass landing page in this link.

Abi is one month old!

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Well, one month and a day, really. How time flies! The day before yesterday she gave us her first smile. what fun!

Besides the fun parts, we realized it’s very difficult to have a small baby around. She almost always needs attention, and it’s hard to sleep at night in small intervals (she usually wants to eat every 2-3 hours). Obviously it’s harder for Michal than it is for me… Hopefully we’ll pull through at the end! :-)
