Lavra

The 2nd day we headed for the Lavra, which is probably the most beautiful part of Kiev. On the way we stopped at a memorial park, with some great views of the city.

Then we got to the Lavra. This is a big complex, which was originally a monestary. It was build about a 1000 years ago or so, and there are many beautiful churches inside. There is a burial cave inside, which is actually a network or caves (catacombs) which is really eerie. There's also a small musuem of miniatures which is cool.

Mother-Land (Rodina Mat')

Just next to the Lavra there's a huge park, with an army exhibit, and a huge titanium statue of the Mother land (Rodina Mat'). I personally thought this was the most impressive sight in Kiev (It is so crazy!) but my ukranian friends say they hate this statue. So there you go!

And here's the Mother land... The soviets sure knew how to build big statues ;-)
